Life after the tsunami

Tokuji Abe, a fisherman from Togura, pilots a fishing vessel during an early morning trip to recover nets at sea near the small village of Minami Sanriku in Miyagi prefecture. Mr. Abe, who lost his house and had his father killed during the tsunami that stroke the northeastern coast of Japan in 2011, owned a boat and worked independently before the tsunami. Due to a shortage of fishing boats in the small fishing community, Mr. Abe donated his boat to a local cooperative where the few remaining boats spared by the tsunami are shared by all.
